The Shoulder Complex is called complex for a reason. To function well the upper ribs, collarbone, shoulder blade and shoulder joints, with the associated muscles, ligaments, bursa, nerves and connective tissue all need to work together to create the large amount of movement required at the shoulder. Shoulder pain and stiffness is often affected by the upper back, neck and posture. This is why Osteopathy is a great choice of treatment for many shoulder problems including impingement syndrome, rotator cuff injuries, bursitis, AC joint injuries, postural dysfunction, and the list goes on.
Osteopathy looks at how the different areas of the body are working together and aims to restore normal movement. When indicated, the osteopath will perform a full physical, orthopaedic and neurological examination, including postural and movement assessment.
Hands-on treatment, as well as stretching and strengthening exercises, can then be used to get you back to healthy movement.
Osteopathic treatment techniques include:
- soft tissue treatment
- joint articulation
- stretching
- manipulation
- gentle, indirect techniques
